Nature of the work :

The Réseau express métropolitain (REM) is a new automated light rail transit system. It will include 26 stations and span Greater Montréal with 67 km of tracks. The REM will gradually replace the commuter train on exo’s Deux-Montagnes line.

For safety reasons, the existing crossings will be transformed by raising the track. Thus, the REM will run on an elevated structure above the road.

In order to build the railway viaduct to allow the passage of the REM, different phases of work will follow one another:

  • Restoration of the roadway under the O’Brien Boulevard railway bridge
  • Reducing the number of traffic lanes on O'Brien Boulevard while maintaining traffic in both directions
  • Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained at all times

Impacts and mitigation measures:

The goal of the REM project office and the NouvLR consortium is to mitigate the impact on local residents and ensure everyone’s safety by taking all appropriate measures.

  • Appropriate mitigation measures to minimize noise and dust will be implemented based on the work in progress.
  • Truck drivers will be made aware that the work is being performed in a residential area.
  • Street cleaning will be carried out if necessary.
  • A detour will always be accessible and signposted.
