The Réseau express métropolitain (REM) is a new new automated light rail network. It will include 26 stations and span the greater Montréal area with 67 km of tracks–by comparison, the current metro network is 71 km long!
The first trains are expected to start running in 2021 from the South Shore to downtown. Then, the other branches of the network will be gradually put into service in 2022-2023.

From downtown to the airport in 20 minutes
The REM will serve the Montréal-Trudeau Airport in less than half an hour from the Bonaventure, McGill or Édouard-Montpetit stations. Reliable and frequent service will be guaranteed at all times and will be unaffected by traffic.
From McGill to Édouard-Montpetit in 3 minutes
The REM will pass through the Mount Royal tunnel and finally connect the green and blue lines of the Montréal metro. Travel time: 3 minutes while it takes currently more than 30 minutes to bypass the mountain by metro!
Safe and reliable
The REM is fully automated, driverless, operated and monitored from a Command Centre. These systems ensure one of the highest levels of reliability and safety in the world. A number of lines in Vancouver, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Dubai, Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore have been using similar systems for about 20 years now.
