Installation of new REM fences along the railway right-of-way

Installation of new REM fences along the railway right-of-way

Construction activities
Fall 2021
North Shore

Nature of the work:

Since the beginning of 2021, several works have been completed and are ongoing within the railway right-of-way, including:

  • The removal of old rail facilities
  • The leveling of railroad tracks (excavation, drainage, etc.)
  • The dismantling and replacement of old fences delineating the railway right-of-way

The dismantling and replacement of old fences aims to proceed with the installation of new fences to secure the railway right-of-way nearby private properties. This work has already begun in some areas, will continue over the coming months, and shall be performed in the following sequence:

  • Clearing of the work area, including trimming or cutting vegetation in conflict with the fence, only where necessary
  • Removal of old fences
  • Installation of new anti-intrusion fences at the edge of the track

In case of a potential delay between the removal and installation of the new fence, a temporary barrier will be installed to ensure the safety between the construction site and nearby properties.

In preparation for the replacement, any items installed on the existing fence (bicycles, toys, landscape arrangements etc.) must be removed by property owners prior to the dismantling.
