Travel with animals, bicycles or other objects

Do you want to board with your bicycle? Or travel with your pet? You can, but there are certain conditions.

Here are the main rules to follow concerning travel with bicycles, animals or other objects in REM trains and facilities. For more details, please consult our Official Regulation. In the event that the Regulation and the text below conflict, the Regulation apply.

Animals on board the REM

You can travel aboard the REM with your pets. However, there are rules to follow:

  • You may be accompanied by a guide dog or service dog if it is assisting you with a disability or if it is being trained.
  • You may also carry your pet, provided it is in a cage or a closed carrier.

REM is conducting a pilot project to allow dogs on leashes on the network at all times, except during rush hours.

Here are the details of the prohibited periods:

  • Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
  • Monday to Friday between 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Here are a few rules to follow for this pilot project:

  • All dogs must wear muzzles, from the moment they enter the station until they leave.
  • You must keep your pet firmly on a leash, with a maximum length of 1.25 m (49 in.) between the hand holding the leash and the attachment on the animal.
  • Only one dog per passenger is allowed.
  • Under no circumstances may dogs occupy car seats or benches on station platforms.

Some entrances to the network are located in buildings that do not belong to the Réseau express métropolitain. Owners of these buildings may allow pet dogs in their buildings in certain areas only. If you intend to use one of these accesses, please enquire beforehand.

Bicycles on board

At all times, rules apply to mark bicycle traffic on the REM network. You may not ride a bicycle or similar object in the stations or in the cars. Furthermore, your bike may not be parked anywhere other than in the racks provided and cannot be parked outside the REM’s operating hours. For more details, please consult our Official Regulation.

Do you have a folding scooter or bicycle?

It's okay to carry it on the REM (except for gas-powered scooters, which are prohibited), as long as it doesn't interfere with the movement of passengers and staff, or compromise their safety or that of the vehicles. The scooter or bike must remain folded for the duration of your journey.

Skis and cumbersome objects

Do you want to travel with your skis or similar gear? You can during off-peak hours, Monday through Friday, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and after 7 p.m., as well as on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, as long as said gear is fastened together, if possible.

Carrying cumbersome objects that can hinder REM operations is forbidden.

Unsupervised luggage and objects

Leaving a bag or luggage behind is forbidden. You must keep your effects under control in order to avoid jeopardizing the safety of others, damaging property or delaying REM service.

Did you notice unsupervised luggage in the network? Communicate directly with the Command Centre via the phones on station platforms or the intercoms in the cars.
