Continued construction of McGill station and rehabilitation of the double arch of the Mont-Royal Tunnel
Nature of the work:
After four years of major work, the excavation of the McGill station site is now almost invisible from the air. This summer, an important step was taken with the construction of the roof slab that closes the underground station.
Construction of the platforms and station spaces is also well underway and will continue through the winter and spring of 2023. Lastly, the rehabilitation work on the double arch of the Mont-Royal tunnel has been completed to make way for the installation of the new REM infrastructure.
Activities will continue in the following sequence:

Impacts and mitigation measures:
- Maintenance of existing traffic obstructions:
- On De Maisonneuve Boulevard West: left lane between Mansfield Street and Robert-Bourassa Boulevard.
- On McGill College Avenue: northbound between Cathcart Street and Sherbrooke Street West, as well as a partial obstruction southbound between Cathcart Street and Sherbrooke Street West. Maintenance of contraflow to facilitate traffic.
- Pedestrian traffic will continue to be impeded between the Montréal Eaton Centre parking lot entrance and 1801 McGill College Avenue.
- The work could cause occasional restrictions around this perimeter.
- This work will generate noise, dust and vibrations. Environmental experts will conduct monitoring to ensure project criteria are met. Mitigation measures may be added as required to complement those already in place.
All businesses and office towers will remain accessible during the work, as will the Montréal Eaton Centre parking lot and loading dock.
*The work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., to concentrate noisy activities mainly during the day and in the evening. Night work is also planned in the area to ensure the integrity of the existing infrastructure.
