Rehabilitation of the Russell footbridge

Nature of work : 

Following an agreement with the Town of Mount Royal, Projet REM will carry out repair and modernization work on the Russell footbridge. On-site mobilization of construction facilities will begin the week of February 17. 

The Russell footbridge will be inaccessible from March 5 until the summer of 2025.

Below is a summary schedule of the expected work:

  • Preparatory work and mobilization of equipment 
From the week of March 5 until summer 2025

Dismantling of the old facilities and preparation of the foundations for the new footbridge:

  • Demolition of the old foundations and dismantling of the existing structure, using a crane
  • Construction of a retaining wall on concrete blocks and a parapet
  • Excavation, drilling of foundation piles
  • Formwork, concreting and formwork removal of foundations
June to July 2025

Reconstruction of the footbridge and demobilization:

  • Assembly of the footbridge
  • Electrical Component Installations
  • Landscaping Finishes
  • Demobilization of equipment
     

 

Impacts and mitigation measures :

  • Noise, vibrations, dust and trucking could be caused by this work, which will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
  • Complete closure of the Russell footbridge as of March 5.
  • Partial closure of one lane on Canora Road between Russell Avenue and Surrey Road and partial closure of one lane on Dunkirk Road between Devon and Glengarry.
  • Adequate signage will be installed and flaggers will be on site to redirect vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
  • Environmental monitoring will be deployed by environmental experts.
  • Appropriate mitigation measures will be put in place when necessary.
