Intensive testing period for the REM car

Nature of work
In anticipation of the commissioning of the first section of the REM, dynamic tests are continuing in intensive mode from the South Shore to Central Station. The purpose of this test period is to train all the personnel who will operate the system, as well as to test crucial components during the winter period.
The intensive testing will be conducted temporarily over a 24-hour period over the next few weeks, including weekends. Speeds will be reduced as possible near residential areas to limit disruption.
Once the dynamic testing is complete, an idle run will be conducted to test operations. For approximately one month, the system will then operate at the schedule expected at the time of commissioning, i.e. approximately 20 hours per day, but without passengers. Once the required reliability has been achieved, REM will be able to open to the public.

A reminder: REM noise in operation in brief
Measures at the source
Several measures at the source have been put in place to minimize noise from passing cars.

A strict regulatory framework
The operation of the REM is governed by a regulatory framework set by the Quebec government. In accordance with these requirements, a noise climate analysis was conducted to compare the current noise climate (without the REM) and the one with the addition of the project, in order to determine if there is a significant difference between the two. Where appropriate, noise walls were added along the route. These walls are located close to the tracks to absorb the noise at the source, thus reducing the height of the walls.
A follow-up program in place
Once the REM is in operation, a monitoring program will be implemented to ensure that noise levels are consistent with the regulatory framework.
