Drilling foundations north of Rivière-des-Prairies railway bridge (between Montréal and Laval Islands)

Construction activities
October 28 - mid-november 2019 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.*
North Shore

Nature of work

The construction of a new, dual-track railway bridge will be built to enable the REM to cross above Rivière-des-Prairies between Laval Islands and the Sainte-Dorothée station. The pillars that will support the new bridge will be built in stages:

  • The drilling rig will be moved from the northern to the southern bridge Monday October 28th.
  • Drilling will be done to dig the foundation caissons for the pillars, which will be inserted into the ground using the vibratory pile method that reduces vibration and noise;
  • The foundation caissons will then be hit a few times by a hydraulic hammer to anchor them to the bedrock.

This work should last two weeks, depending on work progress and weather conditions.

Impacts and mitigation measures :

  • The work will generate noise and vibration. The work methods and mitigation measures are intended to reduce the impacts at the source by using acoustic enclosures around the machinery whenever possible.
  • Environmental monitoring teams will be on site to ensure that the mitigation measures are implemented effectively.

*Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Work outside this time period may be necessary to mobilize and demobilize required equipment, to accommodate deliveries, and to clean up the site.
