Dynamic testing for the REM starts in the West Island

A new 14-km segment has been added to the dynamic testing zone on Montreal. Starting on September 3, 2024, REM cars will gradually run along the elevated structure tracks in the West Island between the Des Sources and Anse-à-l’Orme stations.

Dynamic testing all the way in the West Island

The dynamic tests, which began last June on the Deux-Montagnes branch, will continue on the Anse-à-l’Orme branch starting from September 3.  

The teams from Groupe PMM (GPMM), the REM operator, will work tirelessly to test every component of the network, from trains to stations, including signalling systems, communication, and platform doors.  

The initial train passages will occur at very low speeds to validate the tracks, meaning they will identify all markers on the network. A circulation pause is also planned in September to finalize construction. Low-speed tests will follow at the end of September before transitioning to high-speed tests.  

How often will REM cars run? 

It will be possible to see REM cars running between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. to carry out the various necessary tests on the cars, components, and systems. The frequency of the runs will vary according to the testing needs. 

What are the steps to be completed for the REM’s commissioning?

With the start of dynamic testing on the Anse-à-l’Orme branch, nearly 40 km of tracks are now available for test runs. The aim is to operate the cars on all tracks during the testing phase to replicate an operational network. The next step is to extend the dynamic tests to the Mont-Royal tunnel once the work will be completed.  

When will you start dynamic testing on the Airport branch?  

The construction of the YUL-Aéroport-Montréal-Trudeau station is still ongoing. Once completed, it will be possible to start dynamic testing towards this station, including the Marie-Curie station.
