Public meetings on the West Island and Deux-Montagnes line

The REM project office is organizing 6 public information meetings to be held in April, May and June to present upcoming work and answer your questions.

Here are a few of the construction phases that will soon begin:

  • Construction on the West Island of the elevated structure using a launching beam (summer 2019)
  • Tunnel boring machine arrives at the Technoparc, to begin digging the tunnel that will run toward the airport (summer 2019)
  • Renovations on several railway bridges on the Deux-Montages line
  • Construction of five stations on the Canora / Du Ruisseau segment, and closure of the Mont-Royal Tunnel (January 2020)

Numerous experts will be there to answer your questions. We will also present the architectural principles of the stations and the light rail metro cars unveiled just a few weeks ago.

Representatives from the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) and Mobilité Montréal will be there to present the mitigation strategy for the Deux-Montagnes line users.

The first construction phase is almost done on the west platforms at the Mont-Royal and Canora Stations. Beginning in May 2019, all of the work completed will be repeated on the other platform, including: excavation and backfill for the platform, retaining wall construction, anchoring in the bedrock and driving of foundation piles.

Teams are preparing to lay the second set of tracks in the Bois-de-Liesse area. We will then begin renovating the infrastructures on the Deux-Montagnes line, most specifically overhauling the railway bridges on Henri-Bourassa, Grenet and Marcel-Laurin Boulevards.

Over the last couple months, the future maintenance centre in Saint-Eustache has begun to take shape. This centre will be used temporarily for exo’s trains beginning in 2020, and then for the REM’s metro cars as soon as they are commissioned.

Here is a view of the elevated structure on the South Shore, which is also what the structure will look like on the West Island. Architects used simple shapes (cylinders for columns, trapezoids for joists) to lighten the footprint.

This is an important milestone: the first beams for the elevated structure were installed over the Lachine Canal at the beginning of April!

The McGill and Édouard-Montpetit metro stations (pictured above) will be integrated into the Deux-Montagnes line. Travel time: 29 min to Édouard-Montpetit and 32 min to McGill from Deux-Montagnes.
