Improved bus service in the event of a REM interruption
In the event of an extended REM service interruption, buses are deployed as quickly as possible by REM partners, to ensure and simplify transit for users.
From September 16, an improved bus service will be deployed in the event of extended REM interruptions. During service interruptions, users will now have access to buses on De La Gauchetière Street West, in front of Place Bonaventure. Therefore, people will be able to avoid a detour to the Longueuil terminus during the afternoon rush hour.
The main points to remember:
- As of September 16, bus service in the event of REM interruptions will be improved.
- Stops serving Central Station will be moved to De La Gauchetière Street West between Robert-Bourassa and Mansfield, in front of Place Bonaventure.
- Users will no longer have to go to the Longueuil terminus during afternoon rush hours. Stops serving Central Station will be on De La Gauchetière Street West, in front of Place Bonaventure at all times.
Learn more about the shuttles deployed in the event of a REM service interruption
Over the past few months, our teams have been listening to user feedback in order to propose a revised version of the bus service in the event of a REM interruption, and to minimize the raised transit irritants. This proposal was presented to the ARTM, which is responsible for its planning and implementation.
Reviewing the service in the event of a REM interruption is a complex process. It requires collaboration between several partners and must meet the following criteria, among others:
- The locations where users board shuttles must be safe and close to REM stations.
- The bus mobilization plan must be realistic and deployable as quickly as possible during interruptions, taking the state of the roads into account.
- The impact on the rest of the public transit network must be mitigated. The deployed buses come from partners such as RTL, STM and exo. The usual bus routes must be maintained.
When shuttles are deployed, messages will be broadcast in REM cars and stations. Just follow the instructions and head for the shuttles.
